About Us

Established in 2008, the South Orange County Women’s Book Club comprises women who live in and around South Orange County, California. We have a private Facebook group we use for communicating with our members; look us up on Facebook at “South Orange County Women’s Book Club“. The club is open to women living in Southern California who wish to attend in-person meetings. If you have any questions, please contact us through our Facebook page.

We meet on the last Wednesday of each month, with the exception of the month of December. Our November meeting is subject to change, owing to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Membership is open to women only, and we adhere to the following rules when meeting in person and interacting online:

  1. Be Kind and Courteous. We’re all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let’s treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
  2. No Hate Speech or Bullying. Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn’t allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, politics, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated, and will result in expulsion from the group.
  3. No Promotions or Spam. Give more than you take to this group. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren’t allowed.
  4. Respect Everyone’s Privacy. Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What’s shared in the group should stay in the group.
  5. Posts Should be Related to Book-Related Topics. Posts here and on our private Facebook group page should be about book-related topics. These topics could be notice of book fairs, library & museum events, books that have been made into movies, etc. Please note, we will not promote for any business, author or any other entity.
  6. Participate! Each member should lead at least one book discussion. Members recommending books for our reading list are encouraged to volunteer to lead the discussion for the book if it is chosen for our reading list.
  7. RSVP for meetings. If you RSVP that you will be attending a meeting, please make every effort to do so. If you know in advance you cannot attend, please update your RSVP status. Members who are continuous “no shows” (4 meetings or more within a six-month period) may have their membership revoked.
